Following the development of Heritage Tourism Plan by the GA Department of Economic Development, a new organization was founded: Destination Brooks. This all-volunteer organization is spearheading promotional efforts designed to attract the "heritage tourist" to the area. Landmarks was invited to assist with the development of the Architectural Heritage Committee. Follow the work of the AHC on the Destination Brooks blog.
Our work in Brooks County is supported by a Partners in the Field Matching Grant from the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
At left is Liberty Baptist Church in the Grooverville Historic Township, in southwestern Brooks County. Built in 1858, it was recently declared eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places.
