Preservation Services
Thomasville Landmarks provides a number of free and fee based services to the public.  

Reinvestment Tax Credit Applications and Tax Abatement - Both the State of Georgia
and our Federal Government offer incentives for historic preservation.  If you own investment
property, are in a historic district and want to rehabilitate your property using the National
Standard for Rehabilitation you may be eligible for both state and federal tax credits and
abatement.  

Homeowners may be eligible for up to $5000 in State Tax Credits.

Fee for RTCA and Tax Abatement Applications
$35/hour for Residential, Non-Income Properties
$50/hour for Commercial Properties

National Register Nominations - Thomasville Landmarks will research and write National
Register Nominations for individual properties and districts.  The cost of these applications
vary based on the complexity of the project but start at approximately $2500. Fee includes
photography, maps, survey work, historical research, filing of official park service forms and
follow-up.

Consultation for Owners of Historic Properties -The City of Thomasville has five local
historic district.  All property owners in these districts must apply for a certificate of
appropriateness before making any exterior changes to their property.  Thomasville
Landmarks offers free consultation for all property owners in our local historic districts.  We
can assist property owners with the application, photography and obtaining appropriate
support materials.  We can also help to advise property owners on appropriate and
inappropriate changes and additions to historic properties.

Presentations and Workshops - Thomasville Landmarks supports preservation in
Thomasville and the Thomas County area.  Any non-profit group or community organization is
welcome to call us for assistance with historic sites, properties or resources.  In the past, we
have assisted churches in the writing of work plans, we have worked with small community
groups that are preserving our rural cemeteries and landscapes, we have done workshops
and trainings for towns wanting to establish local and national register districts.  These
services are offered on a
sliding scale to churches and non-profit organizations.
