Rural Heritage Initiative |

Thomas County is largely a rural environment, with unspoiled farmland and vast hunting plantations that set the tone for life in this small Southern community. Recognizing the threats of intensive development and loss of population in rural areas, the Jasper and Marthalene Davis Foundation donated a seed grant of $5,000 to kick off the Rural Heritage Initiative. This Initiative has the dual goals of: - Educating the community on the roles of historic preservation in economic development, planning and community design -Assisting local governments with the priorities established in their most recent comprehensive plans.
Each of the six municipalities in Thomas County is involved in some capacity. Click on the community name to follow the progress.
